Pinay Scandal Pinay Scandal. Again?

by enad on September 3, 2009

There’s nothing wrong with the title of this pinay-scandal-related post. I meant it that way. Period.

So is this going to be another scandalous post? I realized about it. In the past few days I’ve been writing posts related to this one. I had one about KC Concepcion, then about Cristine Reyes (read the post to find out the truth) and then yesterday, about Mariane Rivera’s scandalous “singit” photo (never wrote about Katrina Halili and Dr. Hayden Kho or Marica Reyes). I had no plan to write something about sex scandal or pinoy scandal, honestly. It’s just that ideas are sprouting anywhere–even in my sleep–God, am I starting to become green-minded?–I hope I won’t get nasty things in return of my (somewhat) nasty  posts. Certainly, Filipinos are talented. No argument about that.

Last year, “Serbis,” produced and directed by Dante Mendoza, made it to the prestigious New York Filmfest and also competed in the Cannes. The problem is that, though, only a few were able to watch it locally, only some got to appreciate  its storyline. Why? It was strictly not for minors; the movie was kind of gay-themed with explicit sexual contents (remember Coco Martin’s nude pic?).

Fortunately this year, another Filipino Indie titled Indepedencia made it to  the 47th Edition of the NYFF. Thankfully, its theme  isn’t like the last year’s. Independencia is a 77-minute masterpiece that employs newsreels and early 20th century studio films with false backdrops to show the destructive effects of the American colonization. According to Edmund Silvestre, Funfare’s Big Apple correspondent, quoted that its “maverick director Raya Martin offers a kind of alternative history of the Philippines and its struggle for nationhood in this stylized tale of a mother and son hiding in the mountains after the US takeover of the islands.”  [may kasunod pa po...]

For the past few days, it seems that I’ve been fond of posting scandal-related topics. I cant help it, they’re just sprouting out from anywhere. Now after KC Concepcion and Cristine Reyes (she doesn’t have one…yet. LOL), now comes the, as they say, yummy  Marian Rivera. I’m not sure if the title for this post is the proper one as she doesn’t have an actual sex scandal (even if she accidentally showed  off her breast in a SOP episode); the picture of her my mom found on the web is quite scandalous though. Check this one out. [may kasunod pa po...]

Leader of Iglesia Ni Cristo Passed Away

by enad on September 1, 2009

I opened Yahoo Philippines and thought that I would find political news as the headlines like the other days, to find out that it would be the death of an influential religious leader. Eraño Manalo, head  of Iglesia Ni Cristo, passed away today  September 1, 2009 at age 84. According to the church’s spokesman Bienvenido Santiago, Ka Erdy died of a heart attack in his Manila home.

Eraño de Guzman Manalo  also known as Ka Erdy to INC members was born on January 2, 1925. He took over the administration of the church after the death of hi father Felix Manalo on April 12, 1963 and became its Executive Minister. He was instrumental in the spread and expansion of the church internationally. He previously held office as its General Treasurer and as a District Minister of Manila. (A short autobiography of his can be found on Inquirer.net)

While most of us are Catholics and we’ve had many religious disagreements with the Iglesia Ni Cristo, we still belong to one country. Let us pray for his soul.

If you don’t know yet, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo a.k.a PGMA ranks number 44 among the Top 100 Most Powerful Women on earth (despite her despite her declining popularity in the  Philippines) with  with Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, as the most powerful for the last four years. That’s is according to Forbes magazine’s  listing for 2009 published on August 19, 2009 at 6:00 PM EDT and which listing project started in 2004. It is edited by editor Liz MacDonald and staff writer Chana R. Schoenberger, and based on visibility and economic impact (economic impact?). [may kasunod pa po...]

Today is the  last Monday of August. If I had a shift today, I would be paid double for doing overtime work. Unfortunately, it still is my day off. But supposing I had, why would I be paid twice my regular? If I were to check the last year’s calendar of regular public holidays, I’d surely find no answer but if I were to base it on this year’s, I would have “It’s the Philippine National Heroes Day” as my response.

So does that mean that this public holiday was not celebrated last year when in fact it’s a regular one? [may kasunod pa po...]

Who is the next sex scandal star?

by enad on August 30, 2009

Cristine Reyes is hailed as FHM Philippines sexiest woman for 2009 garnering a total of  382,819 votes and she’s also  Cosmopolitan Philippines’ covergirl for August 2009 issue but nope, she’s not the new sex scandal star. There’s none yet.

Speaking of Cosmopolitan, have you by the way seen its 8/09 cover page? Although Cristine’s sexy-yet-wholesome look occupies most  of it, what really caught my attention was one of the cover articles: “What If the Next Sex Scandal Star…Is YOU?” Anyone who saw the mag and isn’t really that lustful would probably notice this text first–of course, next to her. I don’t have so much idea of what the article is about as I haven’t read it yet but even so, the question being posed is quite intriguing. [may kasunod pa po...]

Bamboo Taxis in the Philippines

by enad on August 30, 2009

This message had been sitting unread in my work inbox for quite some time. Until lately, I decided to open and forward it to my personal email. You might have already received an email or read a post similar to this one before but if you haven’t, just be amazed.

The bamboo taxis in the photos below can be found in Tabontabon, a fifth-class municipality, located about 30 kilometers south of Tacloban City in the province of Leyte, Philippines. These new taxis are based on renewable materials. The 90 of its bodywork is made entirely from bamboo, which, aside from being being lightweight and  stronger in tensile than steel, grows back after harvested. Even the fuel is renewable, as the engines in these vehicles are powered by coco-biodiesel.

So why taxis and not jeepneys? [may kasunod pa po...]

Learning Our Alibata

by enad on August 29, 2009

How I wished I didn’t visit this particular site for it made me remember how I envy the Japanese, Chinese and Koreans. I’m not talking about their eyes; mine also have a “wa-chi-chow” characteristic. It is their own sets of writing characters that I’m referring to.

You know those pictographs-slash-ideographs that look just like, oh well, pictographs-slash-ideographs. Maybe they’ll just, for me, remain as they are unless the law requires me to learn them. [may kasunod pa po...]

Amateur Photography as My Pasttime

by enad on August 28, 2009

There are times when I really just have nothing to do. I just go grab my digital camera and test my photographic kills. Or I mean photography skills. Oftentimes, it’s my camera’s macro function that I’m using. The results are better if flash is disabled not a good idea if it’s dark though. I searched my picture folders for some nice amateur macro photos to share with taken using a cheap Canon A470.  Click on the pictures below for a larger view with lightbox effect:
